Last night, I was invited by a friend to have dinner to a newest place in town. It was just opened yesterday and I would say I got hooked up in this place. The place that I’m talking about is the JUAN: ANG KAN-ANAN NI OGIS. It’s a dining restaurant that serves delectable foods at reasonable prices. They have several variants of food to offer, from their Best Seller Spareribs, Sizzling Sisig, Sizzling Gambas down to easy to served foods like Tapsilog, Chicken Nuggets and many more. They also served roasted chicken from the original and delicious brand OGIS LITSON MANOK.

What I like in this restaurant aside from the food is the spacious dining area which is ideal for family and barkadas gathering. The staffs were all friendly, accommodating and mostly they served quickly, which I think one vital quality of a restaurant to have. You don’t have worries for your vehicles because they also have spacious parking area intended for you. The location is very accessible for food trippers like me because it’s just along R. Duterte St. cor. Forest Hills, Banawa, Cebu City.

Aloguinsan... Gem of the SOUTH!

Two weeks ago, I was invited by a college friend to visit their province somewhere in south of Cebu because they're having their Annual Fiesta. I was excited then since it's my first time to visit Aloguinsan and it's my time also to met my friends way back in college years. Without any further discussions, I packed my things right away then.

We took a V-Hire from Citilink Cebu City going to Pinamungahan because the V-hire directly going to Aloguinsan was until 2 pm only. We left Cebu City around 7:00 pm and after two (2) hours of seating on and chatting with friends with different topics inside the van, we finally arrived in Pinamungahan. After we got off, we rode a single motorcycle that local folks called it “HABAL-HABAL” going to Aloguinsan that took us 10-15 minutes.We directly went to our friend's house and took our dinner since it's late already.

After freshen up, we went to disco where a lot of people dancing on a small squared place. They were bumping each other already. It's nice though because it's easy to know the local ladies on the area. After dancing, we decided to sing along in a Karaoke along the road and with a bottles of beer that completed the event.

Waking up the following morning was too hard. We supposedly decided to attend the 10 am mass but unfortunately we missed it. Instead we just went to church later in the afternoon, lighted a candles, offered our wishes and prayer. It was also the time we saw the municipality of Aloguinsan by day and I personally got impressed how beautiful the place was.

I love the park where it's over looking the beach and siting the island of Negros. The wind was so refreshing and inviting us to stay more in this place. We also went to Hidden Beach Resort that lived up to it's name... really hidden but it was very nice. It was really quite and have white sand shore that you could lay your camping tent.

For two days being there is not enough to fell the lay back lifestyle of Aloguinsan people but I am very sure that I'm going back there and experienced again the life that I really wanted.... simple and quite!

Matapos masalanta ang Metro Manila sa bagyong ONDOY nitong last weekend. Maraming mga grupo ang nagtulong-tulong para mabigyan ng relief goods ang ating mga kababayan. Lingid ng nakakarami na sa gabi ng sababo naglibot na si Angel Locsin para makita ang sitwasyon sa mga nasalanta. Noong gabi ding yun, namigay ang sikat na actress ng tubig at damit na pasi-unang tulong nya sa mga biktima. Nag-donate rin ang dalaga ng Php 500,000.00 pesos.
Kahapon nagpunta ang grupo ng dalaga kasama sina Candy Pangilinan, Erma Adlawan at mga kaibigan nito sa Payatas, Quezon City para magbigay ng tulong din sa mga nasalanta. Personal na nag-packing ang dalaga at binigay ang mga ito sa mga biktima. “Sila ang mas nangangailangan ng tulong dahil sila yung walang mapapatungan, walang second floor ang bahay. Wipe out talaga sila”, lahad ng aktres. Dumating din sa area ang Sagip Kapamilya ng ABS-CBN para magdala rin ng tulong.

Tulad sa kanyang ginampanang karacter in 2005 bilang DARNA pinatunayan ni Angel Locsin sa panahong ganito na siya ang tagapagligtas ng nangangailangan. Makita mo na may puso at bukas loob na tumulong hindi lang sa karakter kundi sa totoong buhay.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE: IT IS WRITTEN...

After it’s recognition from Oscar Academy Awards last month, Slumdog Millionaire is finally shown here in the Philippines. Actually, it’s almost a month now that it started to shown in local theater. I’m one of the million of movie goers who would love to watch this world class awarded film. I was asking myself what is in this movie that captured the viewers all over the world. What lesson I’ve learned in this movie? Is it the culture of India where the plot of the movie from or just an ordinary film that deals with social awareness which several movie makers shown it before?

When I entered the movie house today, I felt so excited that finally I could watch the movie already. I’d love to answer those questions that are running in my mind. The movie was starting to role and I observed the people who are also watching. Do we have same feelings and questions in our mind why we watched this movie? Or it’s just that they don’t have choice because this what was playing in the mall?

After the movie playing, some might just say that Slumdog Millionaire title was just taken from the main character whose from a slum, joined the Who Wants to be a Millionaire and won. I hope that those people who watched with me don’t just think that way?

Slumdog Millionaire is not just describing the main character but it’s describes life and humanity. It was shown how life is but for Jamal, Salim, and Latika this crucial life gives them courage to continue and not losing hope. Even how hard it was but still they hang on to each other and never give up in life at early age. One scene in movie where in Salim hang Jamal into the window of the train just to get a food to eat. Unfortunately, they got caught and fall on the dusty ground. Sometime we tried to think about it in our own word “Kapit sa Patalim” just to survive but we have to realized it’s just give us a complicated life. Look Jamal and Salim when they fall on the dusty ground Jamal think that they were in heaven and realized that it was Taj Mahal. From there, he observed the people visited the place, the tourist guides which he tried to be one of them. Never lose hope despite of your struggles and problems in life. We could still find a Taj Mahal in us and give us hope to survive.

This movie also shown us that in life the best teacher are the experiences we got. Jamal didn’t go to college to know those questions. As what he said, you don’t need to be genius to win the million. Yes, exactly winning this battle of life doesn’t need to be a lawyer, doctor or an engineer. To overcome those problems and struggles surely you’re already a winner.

One thing I’ve learned in this film is that treasure your family and love ones. It is your inspirations to continue in life. Look at Jamal, he never forgets Latika in every single day and hoping someday that they meet and united again. This hope drives him to continue in life and give him courage to overcome those trials he gone through. We are encourage to be like Jamal.

Each one of us has our own destiny. Maybe it was Jamal's destiny to be a millionaire. I’m sure one of us is a millionaire in a different way. Millionaire as having trusted friends, supportive families or a brightful career but the big question is HOW DID YOU MAKE YOUR DESTINY?

Grilled at Gerry's Grill Restaurant

A long day of touring yesterday at Manila Ocean Park, we decided to relax and feed our hungry stomach at Gerry's Grill Restaurant just located within the park. We anticipated a good service as what we experienced from other branches of Gerry's Grill through out the country but we are failed.

When we arrived the place, someone assisted us and we decided to sit outside area of the restaurant to have a good view of Manila Bay. The waiter handed us the menu and left us. When we were about to order no waiters around, I have to stand up and get their attention. We ordered Sizzling Sisig, Rice, Club House Sandwich, and drinks. We waited for about 20 minutes before the waiter informed us that Club House Sandwich was not available. We decided to order other recipe which is Sizzling Pork Steak. I also noticed while waiting our orders, waiters weren't sure where they going to served those foods. We were asked thrice if we ordered those foods.

After 10 minutes, we noticed that they served Club House Sandwich to other customer that gave me confusion. I asked the waiter how come you served Club House Sandwich, your co-waiter told me that it's unavailable? He didn't replied.

The waiter who got our order approached us that he didn't know that they have it. He was told that it's unavailable that's the same information he handed to us. With that time, I started to complaint out from a tiring body and hungry stomach I can't control myself to feel them my disappointment. I told them, can you just canceled the Sizzling Pork Steak and I will just have the Club House Sandwich I ordered first, which they did.

After (5) minutes, they served our orders except the rice. I waited again for about two (2) minutes after eating the Sizzling Sisig with rice.

We started eating almost one (1) pm already.

Why I'm sharing this? I knew a lot of us experienced this kind of incident. We owe a good service of what we were paying.
I hope the management would change or upgrade the way of serving their customers.

A NEGLECTED HEROES???

I'd like to share this email I received from a friend. This letter is adress to all wives, husbands, children, friends and relatives who happens to be an OFW (Overseas Foriegn Workers) and especially to those who plan to go work abroad. This could help us to fully understand what really the true meaning beyond the acronym of OFW. I'm sure we could take a lesson after reading this blog.

For everybody, OFW's are not rich. We have this notion that if you're an OFW or living abroad you're already a rich person but it's not true. A regular OFW might earn from Php20K - Php300K per month depending on the location whether your in the middle east, europe, or america but it didn't mean that they're already rich. It is all fallacy.

All of the OFW needs money why they have to leave their families and work abroad. They have to feed those families left and mostly 3/4 of their salary goes to the tuition fees of the children and other daily expenses of the family.

It's not easy to be an OFW. You have to save as long as you can. Yes, it's look good and tasty the food abroad but mostly they prepare to eat fried pork, egg just to save. During salary day, the first thing to check is the monetary conversion. It is ok with them not eat as long as their families have something to eat.

When they goes home, it's an obligation to have presence or something for their families who waited at the airport. If you miss one, he or she might back fight on you though not all but mostly all the OFW experiencing that.

Most of the OFW's experiencing racial discrimation, hard and risky working places but these all are conquered by them not just to give up and have something to send to their families back home.

OFW's are not stone nor an ATM Cash Dispenser, they are still a human being. They felt tired, lonely, getting sick who needs to have someone to support not physically, emotionally, though just spiritually would be fine. They are getting older too which some of them are bald already, have signs of hypertension, arthritis and yet they still continue to work thinking about their families left backhome. They have tried everything to have something to give to their families but unfortunately families left didn't look this kind of sacrifices. Children went into drugs, premarital sex, early pregnancy, and husband/ wife left them with other partner instead.

Yes! Absolutely, they are our new hero though they are not using a typical guns in fighting the enemies but guns of loneliness, courage, fighting spirits to survive to battle of life. They have suffered just to give a good life, education for their families.

It is nice to think that time will come no one have to leave their families just to work overseas. You could see your children growing up, attend special occassions like graduation, and eating together as one happy family. But as what they said life is not perfect. We have to suffer inorder to survive this battle of life.

To all the Overseas Foriegn Workers out there, I salute you for being such a strong, courageous person.

Summertime is fast approaching. Have you plan already where to go this summer? If not yet, then I have something to recommend to you. I will take you to the hidden paradise or little Boracay as others described this island.

BANTAYAN ISLAND – is a small island but blessed with the beauty of Nature. It is located in the northern part of Cebu, Philippines. It has three (3) municipalities namely SANTA FE, BANTAYAN, MADRIDEJOS where each municipalities has something to offer.

Santa Fe is where the long shoreline, white sand beaches located. You could stay at Octong Beach, Bodiong Beach, and Sugar Beach. These beaches have cottages for rent in affordable prices only.

Bantayan is a 20 minutes ride from Santa Fe, where the parade of roast pig (litson baboy) happened. This is a traditional event of Municipality of Bantayan during Holy Week showing to visitors how thankful to God of all their blessings they received. Because of this festive celebration, catholic archbishops give them an authority to eat meat though it’s holy week where people observed fasting. This is the only municipality has an ATM Machine (CIRRUS NETWORK) at Allied Bank.

Madridejos is a 30 to 45 minutes travel by land from port of Santa Fe. You can visit the lighthouse which is beautifully design by Filipino Artist.

HOW TO GET THERE?
*From City of Cebu, you can get a CERES BUS which approximately three (3) hours of travel going to port of HAGNAYA North of Cebu. The fare is Php90 – 120 it depends on the season. In Hagnaya, you will hop a ferry ride for 75 minutes which the fare is Php120.00 for regular and Php150.00 for fastcrafts.

Tips: If you have more budget you could hire a rented van for your convenience. You can have it for as low as Php1000 – 1,500.00

*You could also fly there thru a Cessna or Piper Mojave Aircraft. The private air charters are available to Mactan International Airport.

WHERE TO STAY?
*If you’re backpackers, you could avail the cheap resorts like Sugar Beach where in you can install your tent for only Php150.00 as corkage.

Tip: Bringing your camping tent is a good idea. It is an “IN” since most people would install their tents along the beach.

The Ruins

Ever since, I do really appreciate other countries especially European countries of their love of arts. The government spends a millions of dollar to preserve these works of art. It has been a dream destination by people around the world and I’m one of them. I wish that I could be able to see those mortal masterpieces of world known artists. But I think my dream was been fulfilled last weekend. I got a chance to visit a work of art in Bacolod City, Philippines. I would say it’s like the Colosseo in Italy, “The Ruins”.
“The Ruins” was an old house mansion of Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson during the Spanish Era. The family preserved this old mansion and open to public to show how beautiful it was. Though it’s only the structure remains but the world class design keeps inviting the visitors. They got mini golf course for those visitors who want to have a lay back experience with a world-class masterpiece as background. They also have canteen for your hungry stomach and eat like you are in Italy. The Ruins has a wide, well-trim grass ground for you to sit down near the five (4) layered fountain chatting with friends. You can have all these things for only Php25.00 as Entrance Fee.
It was my first time visited the place and I was amazed with the structural design. It’s really unbelievable to see this work of art. I said to myself that it’s seems like I went to Europe after seeing the mansion. I’m grateful somehow that I visited “THE RUINS”, which I compared as the Colosseo in the Philippines.

How to get there?
1. There are regular flights from Cebu, Manila and ferry from Iloilo going to the “City of Smile” Bacolod City.
2. If you want to have a kind of adventure, why you don’t take a jeepney a local mode of transportation? From downtown plaza going to Barangay Bata, this is only Php7.00 for the fare.
3. From there, you will have to take a tricycle going to THE RUINS and the fare is Php10.00.

SORE EYES STRIKES AT SUMMER TIME

As we go to summer time, we don’t have to prepare only our swimming suits and gears but also to seasonal disease like SORE EYES.

These are questions frequently asked about SORE EYES as per Department of Health of the Philippines. I hope this would help you to prepare yourself on this season.

1. What is sore eyes?
"Sore eyes" is a common term for an inflammation of the thin covering of the eyeball and the inner eyelid brought about by a viral infection which may be highly contagious.

2. How does sore eyes spread?
Sore eyes can spread by contact of contaminated hands with the eyes (hand to eye contact ) or through touching of eyes with hands which got into contact with contaminated surfaces or objects. It can also spread through droplets from a person with sore eyes who also has a runny nose or cough.

3. What are the signs and symptoms of sore eyes?
1. Redness of the eye
2. Eye discomfort describing as burning or gritty but not sharp
3. Vision is usually normal although smearing particular in waking, maybe common.
4. Pain on the eye on exposure to light
5. Water-like discharge commonly seen but later eyes maybe difficult to open in the morning, glued together
6. Runny nose and sore throat maybe present

4. How long does sore eyes last?
Signs and symptoms of sore eyes will peak in 3 to 4 days, and patient will be relieved and recover in about 10 to 14 days.

5. What are the complications of sore eyes?
After a severe and prolonged infection there can be corneal scarring that can result in glare and decreased vision.

6. Is there a treatment for sore eyes?
Sore eyes which is of viral origin is self-limiting. Anti-inflammatory and antibiotic eye drops or ointment may be used upon the advice of a health professional. To relieve the discomfort, warm compress may be applied to the eye 5 to 10 minutes three times a day.

7. How to prevent sore eyes?
1. Wash hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water.
2. Do not touch your eyes and face without washing your hands.
3. Do not share towels, eyeglasses/ shades and make up.
4. Do not reuse handkerchiefs (using a tissue is best).
5. Used make-up must be thrown away if the patient has been diagnosed with infectious conjunctivitis.
6. Be careful that tips of eye drops or ointments do not touch the eyes or eyelashes.
7. Don’t swim (some bacteria and viruses can be spread in the water).
8. Avoid shaking hands.
9. Disinfect surfaces, doorknobs, counters, elevator buttons, hand rails with dilute bleach solution.
10. Clothes, towels, pillow cases and anything else which may have come in contact with an infected person should be washed.

8. What should patients with sore eyes do?
1. Frequently wash hands with soap and water.
2. Use clean tissue to remove discharge from eyes and wash hands afterwards.
3. Dispose used tissue in garbage bins. If the latter is not available, keep tissue in a small plastic bag then discard it as soon as you find a garbage bin.
4. To prevent irritation of the eye and possible scarring, do not use contact lens while one has sore eyes.
5. Do not wear eye make-up until the problem has been resolved.

Have you realized that being shopacaholic is a way of expressing himself about things he wanted to buy or have it? Actually, the way you are right now is have something to do with your childhood. You might be deprived with something before that’s why when you are capable of buying things you want to have all everything you don’t have. Have you noticed that there were some people collecting shoes, bags, toys and etc? Most of them confess that they want to have those things because they don’t have it before.

I know it’s not bad to reward ourselves with branded, expensive, things but I hope not too much. Too much that not even to eat just to buy that thing and swiping credit cards without thinking what are the consequences after being not controlling you doing it.

I just watched the movie Confessions of a Shopacaholic and I learned one thing. You don’t need expensive stuff to make you happy and before you buy it ask yourself “Do I really need it?” the magic question you have to remember when you go strolling to malls and shops.

As we experiencing financial crisis right now, I hope we would learned to value our money. It’s not yet too late to start saving a single penny a day. It will be a thousand after a year and remember to spend it wisely.

Do you hate lining up in a long line and waiting for hours in processing personal documents such Birth Certificate, Certificate of No Previous Marriage (CENOMAR) and Passport Application? Then this blog could help you in getting through those problems.

Things to do:

1. Dial NSO HELP Hotline: (02) 737 1111 . It is open 24 hrs.

2. An operator will assist you by asking you some personal questions like Full Name, Birthdate, Birth of Place, Name of Parents. After that, he / she will give you a 10 digits reference number and how much are you going to pay. As of now, Birth Certicate is Php330.00 and CENOMAR is Php 430.00.

3. The operator will also ask you where do you prefer to mail the documents. If you ask somebody to received it then you're advise to have them an Identification Card or Authorization Letter presented upon claiming the documents.

4. This 10 digits reference number will be used in paying at Metrobank.

5. After paying at Metrobank, you will received a confirmation text message from NSO stating they already received the payment.

6. If you don't have problems with your documents it will just take 2 -3 working days for Birth Certificate, 5 -10 working days for CENOMAR and for passport it depends on the processing period of Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

It's been a great time traveling isn't it? I'm very fortunate that I able to travel the beautiful country Philippines and share it to you by a blog.
